How Do I Quit Smoking?

  • There are medication treatments, like Chantix that can be prescribed by your primary care physician. Chantix binds to the nicotine receptor in your brain and has shown to be very effective in helping patients quit smoking. Whether you are preparing for surgery or just thinking about quitting, free help is always available.

  • Christiana Care offers a free smoking cessation program.

The face-to-face smoking-cessation program helps you identify situations that trigger you to smoke and develop strategies to kick the habit. A trained smoking cessation counselor meets with you three times in a month to help you plan for a tobacco-free life. The counselor also evaluates health problems you may experience from ending your addiction to nicotine and the effectiveness of nicotine replacement products you can use to help you quit.

  • To register for the three-session class, call 800-693-2273. Once registered, you will be directed to call the Delaware Quitline at 866-409-1858 to have your class materials sent to you. For additional information, call 302-623-4661.
